Ally Venable Band, Puppet Show Review 1

The Lone Star State is known for its powerful blues, and yet another star is emerging from the stat in the form of a powerhouse vocalist and guitarist named Ally Venable. The Ally Venable Band is bringing a powerful sound to the modern blues scene. This 18-year-old female started singing at an early age in church and is a protégé of guitarist/vocalist Lance Lopez. Her songwriting, guitar playing, and onstage presence is something special and with drummer, Elijah Owings and bassist, Bobby Wallace, the trio have released Puppet Show. Also, appearing on one track each is, Gary Hoey and Lance Lopez. The ten tracks cover a lot of ground and allow plenty of room for Venable’s strong vocals and dirty blues guitar playing. This trio has a dynamic modern rockin’ blues sound and it will certainly get that mojoe workin’. That’s the short of it!

Positives:

Great blues vocals and guitar playing by Venable. The band is a well-oiled machine and the songs stand up on their own merit.

Bottom Line:

Bring that special Lone Star vibe to ten selections that have aggressive modern blues guitar playing and powerful vocals, The Ally Venable Band is something special. The band has a Rock'in Blues style that covers all the blues bases: shuffles, Rock’in Blues and a blues ballad, all with that special tradition of blues inflection and feel that is all important. Venable is expanding on the traditional approach to great effect, and she does play some fabulous guitar.
