Marbin, Israeli Jazz Review 2

Marbin, is a blistering jazz rock, funk fusion band that is one of the treasures and musical talents on the roster on MoonJune Records, which was founded by Leonardo Pavkovic. The band is a progressive instrumental jam-jazz-rock-blues-fusion band based in Chicago, that has been bringing their original instrumental music to every part of the United States, performing also in Canada, Mexico and Colombia. The dynamic foursome is co-led by two Chicago based, Israeli born musicians, Danny MARkovitch (saxophone) and Dani RaBIN (guitar), who compose all the music together. Rounding out the quartet is Blake Jiracek (drums) and Jon Nadel (bass), togeather they are a powerful force. Israeli Jazz (2018), is their 7th release. The album features seven original compositions that feature a unique blend of Rabin’s distorted guitar with Markovitch’s bright soprano sax tone. The two effortlessly play fast unison lines, as the band easily navigates the intricate forms, and seamless transitions, from feel to feel and section to section. The tunes are melodic and harmonically adventurous, presented with the inimitable language, the band and the solos are first-rate. That’s the short of it!

Positives:

Wonderful compositions with a positive and joyous spirit to the music. Adventurous and musical improvised solos over hip harmony and forms. This band grooves hard!

Bottom Line:

Marbin has a distinctive sound, they are in sync with each other musically and the language of the band is a wonderful blend of jazz, rock, blues, funk and world music. The music also has and underpinning of Israel flavoring sprinkled in on this release, the music is presented with other traditions as the band fuses them into a coherent vision that is exclusively Marbin!
