Reginald Policard and Richard Bona, Melancolia Review
Reginald Policard and Richard Bona have teamed up to bring us a beautiful world music single titled “Melancolia.” Policard is a legendary Haitian Grammy-Nominated jazz pianist, and Richard Bona is a Grammy-Award-Winning bassist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist. Together the two musicians combine their musical skills to create a unique blend of melodies and rhythms that will completely captivate the listener’s attention.
“Melancolia” is built on the infectious grooves and rhythmic patterns of Caribbean, African, and traditional Smooth Jazz. These influences combine to highlight the warmth and texture of this distinctive melody.
Joining Policard and Bona are Aaron Lebos on guitar, Ludwig Alfonso on drums, and Yoel Delsol on percussion.
Bona’s ethereal voice presents the lyric-less melody with doubling by Policard on the piano. Bona’s pure tone and pitch matches the piano and, at times, guitar to form a beautiful sound that is organic and beautiful.
Policard’s solo is melodic and rich in textures. The added building string sounds build to Lebos’ fluid and jazz-influenced solo.
Overall, Reginald Policard and Richard Bona have built a beautiful, sonically diverse single, influenced by Caribbean, African, and traditional Smooth Jazz idioms with “Melancolia.” That’s the short of it!
