The Alpha Complex is a Sacramento, California modern rock outfit that consists of vocalist Michael Woodruff, guitarist Kery Glennon, bassist Travis Carrier, and drummer Matthew O’Connell. They released their debut single “Without You” in 2019, followed by the track “Bad For You” on March 26, 2020, which included a complete performance video filmed and directed by Dana Willax and Orie McGinness. Both of the singles were mastered by Taylor Larson of From First To Last. The band initially formed in 2012 with Woodruff and Glennon recording their first album Generate, released in May of 2014. In 2016, The Alpha Complex toured the album twice in the US before deciding to rebrand, which resulted in the band taking Generate off all online outlets to revisit it again in the future. The Alpha Complex is now dropping their newest single, a larger-than-life, electronic-rock-tinged track called “A War Worth Winning.”
[section label=”Bottom Line”]Bottom Line:  “A War Worth Winning” features lush electronic elements that meld seamlessly with the band’s signature hard rock style. Lyrically, the song deals with the struggle of mental health. “The song is about the daily battle we all fight against the opinions and words of others,” explains frontman Michael Woodruff. “Racism, bullying, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, addictions – these are all major factors in our day-to-day lives. These battles all make up the war that is our life, and that war is worth winning.” Along with the single, The Alpha Complex has an accompanying music video, produced by Sam Shapiro Media 3D VFX & edited by Zack Williams. The video is a 3D rendered, animated lyric video that highlights the lyrical content with haunting imagery. The building intro has electronica sounds and electric guitars working to grab your attention before Woodruff’s vocals enter. The melody is catchy and melodic. There are metalcore elements, but The Alpha Complex mixes things up with electronica sounds within the effects on the vocals, the synths, driving beat, and varying textures. The metal edge is still maintained in their songwriting, and that is the winning element of this song, the marriage of styles to create a moving structure with a strong message and memorable melody. That’s the short of it!
