Connect with Take the Black: Facebook
Hailing from Yonkers, New York, Take the Black is a pop rock band that lives up to their high energy and edgy hometown attitude. With a mix of indie rock and punk their music is culled with catchy hooks and sharp lyrics. Their first full-length demo, Smoke up, Johnny, was released in May of 2017. The band consists of Eddie Mastromarino (lead vocals, guitar); Tom (lead guitar, backing vocals); Chris Baldini (bass, backing vocals), and Sean Plunkett (drums, backing vocals). Their latest single “Starry Night,” is in anticipation of their first full-length album Blood Moon.
Positives:
Mastromarino has a strong voice, filled with mellifluous qualities. “Starry Night,” has an entrancing quality that keeps you tuned.
Bottom Line:
The band has a solid sound. “Starry Night,” is a well-penned tune, with crunchy guitars and a chorus that hooks. The harmonies are tight, and the musical chemistry of the band builds a full pad of energy for the melody to sit in and be clearly heard. “Starry Night” has a solid flow, with each section, the band carefully builds the intensity of the song, adding locked harmonies and reinforcement of variations, which adds a depth to the songs overall appeal. Take the Black is a new name for us; but well worth the discovery. They have a promising future and are definitely ones to watch. That's the short of it!
