ROELANT is a power rock trio based in Houston, Texas that is making a big noise that lives up to the reputation the lone star state has developed. The band has a classic tinge to their rock bite and are not afraid to write songs that are melodic and deep in meaningful lyrics. Roelant is: Justin Roelant- Lead Vocals and Guitar, Matt Hammersky- Bass, and Josh Compean- Drums. The trio will be releasing an album in April of 2019, but now they are releasing the first single titled, “Wrong.” The single marks the band’s first music release in four years. “Wrong” is a funk-rock tune featuring strong riffs and horns and topped by ROELANT’s soaring vocals and is being released on Revolution House Records.

Positives:

Roelant brings and energetic and stimulating sound to the table with snappy horn parts and riffing guitar parts framing strong lead vocals.

Bottom Line:

Roelant is a power trio, but for “Wrong” they are joined by a hip horn line that augments their power lines with a classy brass buzz. Opening with a strong riff that evolves to a song form that has multiple feels and solid vocals and harmonies. There are moments of driving guitars and organ swells, but the melody and lyrics always ring through with clarity. Roelant’s 2015 release, Music To Change The World By, yielded two Billboard charting singles, “Staring at the Sun” and “Soda Pop Kids.” They’ve toured throughout Texas, notable headlining and selling out the Heights Theater in Houston. “Wrong” brings that same energy and the music is clear and balance with the talents of mix engineer Steve Christensen (Steve Earle, Khruangbin) and mastering engineer Dave McNair (Snarky Puppy, Fantastic Negrito. “Rock n Roll was the protest music of the 60’s and 70’s and the tension in our culture at the time was the lifeblood of the music,” says singer and guitarist Justin Roelant, “and it’s my hope that we can tap into that again to make a record that’s both grooving and thought-provoking.” That energy is in there, so go and get you some! That’s the short of it!
