Pretty Sick, Come Down Review

Pretty Sick was created by Frontwoman, vocalist, and songwriter Sabrina Fuentes at thirteen years old. Over the last decade, Pretty Sick has refined its sound through various line-ups and growth in songwriting and life experiences. Dirty Hit has signed the band, and with a new move from New York City to London, Pretty Sick’s follow-up to 2020’s Deep Divine is called Come Down. The EP is edging with potential and percolates with grunge rock, with Fuentes’ passionate vocals leading the way.
[section label=”Bottom Line”]Bottom Line:  Come Down is a solid collection of tunes from Pretty Sick and is still a complete hands-on project for Fuentes. The lyrics deal with themes of sadness, anger, and coming down to reality. “Dumb” is the opening sounds with influences of British rock making itself heard. The jaunty melody is kicked back in the mix and fronted by a full steady bass line, slapping snare, and textural guitars. To Pretty Sick’s credit, the EP does not grapple with an identity crisis; each track maintains its character and stylistic quirks. “She” has stimulating effects on Fuentes’ vocals. The fizzy guitar certainly adds to the vibe and rock attitude. “Bare” is an entertaining play of contradictions in lyrics and counterpoint. The carefully contoured vocal lines and harmonies roll around the bass as we can clearly hear Fuentes’ inflections and conjuring style. Overall, Come Down continues to show Fuentes is at home in her musical playground of emotions conveyed through her lens of rock stylings and easy-to-remember hooks and lustrous melodies. That’s the short of it!
