KOATES is a London based trio that is building their reputation as outstanding songwriters. The KOATES are: James Coates (vocals, guitar), Jojo Macari (bass, backing vocals) and Joe Perkins (drums). The three friends perform together in other projects but came together as a band last year. The chemistry between the is audible and together their craft of songwriting is captivating. KOATES is releasing their second single titled, “The Right Place.” The sound is produced by Gary Go, who has worked with the likes of: Rihanna, Robbie Williams, Take That, The 2 Bears and Juliette Lewis. “The Right Place” is based on a relationship turning toxic. One day you can experience total happiness and euphoria, the next you hit rock bottom. That constant Ping-Pong effect: fight, make up sex, fight, make up sex, is what inspired the song. Just hoping that the toxicity would disappear, and you could be in good place” says KOATES. The result is a stirring song that offer lyrics that highlight the story in a succinct and evocative way. That’s the short of it!

Bottom Line:
KOATES has a chemistry that results in songs that have catchy melodies and creative forms. “The Right Place” starts with relaxed feel, delayed guitars and swirling vocals set to the beat of a shaker which frames Coates vocals. The pre-chorus fills out with the band laying down a solid pop rock feel as the song builds to the chorus. With a sixteenth note guitar figures setting the mood, Coates sings the catchy melody, as the band provides rhythmic hits. The KOATES build the track, telling the story with well-crafted lyrics. The bridge has a nice feel change and Coates falsetto vocals are spot on. It is easy to see why KOATES is gaining a respected reputation, their song-craft is stellar, and the performances only solidify the status they are building. Certainly, ones to watch.
