The new Greta Van Fleet album, From The Fires, will feature four new songs, as well as the four critically-acclaimed tracks from the band’s EP Black Smoke Rising. Al Sutton and Marlon Young produced the four new tracks that were recorded at Rust Belt Studios in Detroit. Greta Van Fleet is well on their way to becoming one of North America’s biggest up-and-coming rock bands. The Michigan-based group consists of vocalist Josh Kiszka, guitarist Jake Kiszka, bassist and keyboardist Sam Kiszka, and drummer Danny Wagner. The band’s classic rock inspired music has the sonics and feel of a rock band teleported here from the 60’s. With syncopated moving bass lines and aggressive drumming all drenched with overdriven blues inspired guitars, the music is a hard-hitting sonic pad for Kiszka’s wide vocal range, robust tonality and blues inspired phrasing. With all these sounds combined, you get a modern band that sounds like Led Zeppelin with vocal harmonies and today’s production. That’s the short of it!
Positives:
Even though the eight-songs were done at various times, the songs make a comprehensive and cohesive flow as an album. Crunching blues rock riffs and bluesy strong vocals all set to hip rock grooves. Dynamic lyrics fill their originals and their emotional and timely cover of Sam Cooke’s 1964 hit, “A Change Is Gonna Come,” brings the band into today’s social environment.
Bottom Line:
The eight-song album contains music that shows Greta Van Fleet’s magnitude and enthusiasm as a band, From the Fires is one of the most exciting releases this year from a new rock band! Impressive singing and fiery playing all laid out with intricate grooves to create a vintage soundscape of the classic rock era, how cool is that? Very cool we say!
