Furlong, Eloquently Review
Furlong is a four-piece Australian based alternative rock band that has come from all corners of the world to connect through their love of the grunge and alternative rock sound and lifestyle. Taking cues from the likes of Garbage and Wolf Alice, they’ve perfected the soft and rowdy contrast in their music and the light and the dark in their story telling. Furlong has a strong influence and sound from ’90s alternative rock, with captivating vocals, raw guitar tones, and a strong thumping rhythm section of drums and bass that gets their point across with authority. Furlong is Andrea McKenzie – vocals and guitar, JJ (Jonathon Jones) – bass, Tim White – lead guitar and Raff Watt – drums. Furlong are releasing a new single titled “Eloquently,” with an edgy sound that will get your heart pumping to pull out that old plaid shirt and high-waisted ripped jeans and be proud to be a Gen Xer.

Positives:
Solid female fronted alternative rock band that has a unified band sound and an ear for songwriting.
Bottom Line:
Great music was created in the 90s and more than that, the 90s promoted function over fashion. Furlong’s “Eloquently” keeps in line with that sentiment in both the music and lyrics. “Eloquently” tells the story of a one-sided relationship, with the storyteller willingly feeding the ego of the person they lust after. Knowing in their heart of hearts they are just being kept around because the person they’re fixated on just likes the attention. It’s a need to have the truth be told, to have it told straight to your face, to have it put eloquently. Andrea captures the mood and style of the meaning of the lyrics perfectly over a steady paced rock beat. The production is solid, allowing the variations the band presents in instrument colors and feels to be heard and enjoyed. The attitude is always present, but never distracting, again, function over fashion. Get set to hear more from Furlong, a band with a sound and solid musical function. That’s the short of it!
