Diamond Thug was formed like so many great bands started, as an idea. In this case the group was formed in a bedroom in Vredehoek and expanded in a basement in Kommetjie.  Their sound is grounded in the rhythms of South Africa with indie pop sensibilities.  The band’s debut album Apastron (2018), blast the group onto the scene.  Their new EP, titled Gaiafy is set to release in May of 2019. Until then fans can enjoy the first single “Tell Me.”

Positives:

Vocalist Chantel has a hauntingly penetrating voice. Supported by gritty guitar and a floating melody “Tell Me,” is a confessional song that is driven by the moving rhythms of sticked drums and deeply felt grooves.

Bottom Line:

Diamond Thug colors with a transcendent musical brush, their music is vibrant, and each crevasse of the canvas is covered in shimmering brilliance of excellence. The group describes the song as “an empathetic song, dealing with the acceptance that suffering is a shared experience of all of life, albeit to differing degrees. Through our suffering, we are healed and can offer our healing to others in the form of sharing experiences.” The depth of the group’s songwriting is felt on this ear catching single “Tell Me,” the group has a unique and singular sound, certainly ones to watch. That's the short of it!
