In the 1960’s Bob Dylan became the “voice of a generation” with his pointed lyric style that incorporated political, social, philosophical and literary influences and meanings. The power of songwriting became a ‘thing’ and the sound and style of Dylan has shaped generations of musicians and none more so than the singer-songwriter genre. Albert Kass is a Los Angeles native whose music is based in that rich tradition. He brings his phraseology of an alternative-folk sound to today’s times and issues at hand. Kass is presenting a new single, “Hurricane,” that is deeply ingrained in the great American song tradition of lyrical compositions of astonishing poetic power.
Positives:
Solid song form, with a catchy melody and poetic lyrics.
Bottom Line:
Kass’ voice is framed by a strumming acoustic guitar, full bass, light drums and cello. The intimacy of the track matches Kass’ vocal style and allows the listener to hear and understand all the lyrics. The storyline is one that is clear, but still leaves plenty of room for the imagination to fill in the blanks to make each line personal and relevant to each listener. His storytelling writing style combined with his instantly likeable voice is a wonderful homage to his biggest inspiration. Kass has something specialy with “Hurricane,” it will leave you breathless. That's the short of it!
