Rebecca “Becky” Blasband is an American singer-songwriter and screenwriter known as a cast member on The Real World: New York, the first season of MTV’s reality television show The Real World. Rebecca Blasband was born and raised in New Hope, Pennsylvania. Her father a psychiatrist and a German immigrant, her mother who runs an antique store in Philadelphia, to which her family moved to when Blasband was thirteen. She attended NYU Film School and worked as an actress with playwright David Mamet’s theater company. She ultimately returned to her first love, music, and formed a band with Adam Schlesinger, the leader of Ivy. Several years later, publishing deals, sound design for TV and films, and living abroad culminated into her latest endeavor Here, which features a confessional and heartfelt album. That’s the short of it!
Positives:
Blasband’s experiences in multiple platforms of music lends itself to great songwriting. Some of the best writers in our industry gather their seasoned experiences to the benefit of the listener. Blasband has a depth to her writing that speaks to the human heart and condition.
Bottom Line:
Here offers a collaboration with Danny Uzilevsky producing at the helm, at his studio, Allegiant Records, in San Anselmo, California. Blasband gives the best of herself on this album. A journey of magnificent tunes that add up to a flavorful listen. Blasband amalgamates her life experiences into tunes that are relatable yet offer a sense of knowing and ponder. Sometimes the music industry focuses too much on youth, when its clear that life experience is the fruit of forbearance.
