Lyrics
Caught me selling out the dreams
I told you long ago
I make my excuses
You don’t care
Caught you sliding round the principles
You used to own
You make your excuses
I don’t care
Look at all the pieces now
See the missing pieces now
Do you have a picture you love
Did you paint the picture you dreamed of
All of us are getting by
No time to be starry-eyed
Keeping up and buckling down
Dreams are for tomorrow
But tomorrow never comes
Drowning in our busy lives
Hiding in our empty highs
Wondering what we really need
Time slips through our fingers
Teasing us with promised lands
We’re out of excuses
No one cares
Look at all the reasons now
Do you know the reasons now
Do you have a picture you love
Did you paint a picture you’re proud of
Fools gold
Shiny but cold
Always out of reach
We don’t practice what we preach
Lives spent
Never content
Always in between
You know what I mean
Do you have a picture
Did you paint the picture
We must paint the pictures we love
Dream over, start over, paint over,
Love
Positives:
“Midlife Musings” is a relaxed listen with elements of the seventies combined with a little indi-pop of today. Rahman’s vocal style is soothing and easy to relate to and follow her emotions.
Bottom Line:
“Midlife Musings” is supported by quiet electric guitar and piano with Rahman elegantly singing her well-constructed lyrics. Rahman says this of the lyrics, “We all have moments when we look in the mirror and wonder - ‘Am I living the life I want to live?’ “Midlife Musings” is a song for those moments. I wanted to create a simple production to give a timeless soundscape to this timeless and universal question. Tomorrow never comes - so go out and live your dreams today. It's not easy, but we can do it.” The song form builds nicely with an overall effect that is soft and airy. Rahman’s vocal style is pleasing, and her soft sensuality encourages you to listen deeper. “Midlife Musings” is a pop tune that is mellow and would fit in the 1970s just as well as it does today. That’s the short of it!
