She simply goes by Jocelyn, recently signed to BMG. The Omaha-based singer-songwriter has unveiled her debut single, “Speak Up.”  Co-written in Los Angeles with producer-composer, Denny White, (The Fray, Tiësto) the single chronicles a personal bullying experience Jocelyn endured and how she worked to overcome it.  “‘Speak Up’ is about turning negativity into positive energy instead of letting the bullies drag you down,” says Jocelyn. “It’s about realizing that you are your own individual, so speak up and live by example.”

Positives:

A heavy hook solidifies “Speak Up,” with infectious guitar and an unforgettable beat. Jocelyn is convincing and uplifting.

Bottom Line:

Sometimes those moments that shake a person to their core, end up shaping them into a stronger self. Such is the case with Jocelyn, her experience with bullying gave her a powerful way to engage her voice for change. Now, she is using her voice to help others by lending her experience to “Speak Up,” she has emboldened an anthem for those diminished by hurtful words, and by example she is healing through her newest single. Jocelyn’s voice is a perfect vehicle to do so, her voice is honest, appealing and clearly comes from a place of natural talent. Her mature perspective not only lends itself to great songwriting, but also places her strongly to the forefront of her contemporaries. That’s the short of it!
