Noa Fort is an Israeli born vocalist, pianist and composer that draws inspiration from different musical worlds, integrating her background of classical and jazz piano, jazz singing, and free improvisation into her original music. Now based in New York, Fort is releasing her debut recording titled, No World Between Us. The album is comprised of 10 original compositions by Fort that feature her piano playing and singing, she is joined by Zack Lober on bass and Ronen Itzik on drums, with guest trumpeter Josh Deutsch on 3 tracks. The songs describe a personal journey of the current day; dealing with themes such as ‘being in the moment,’ self-acceptance and appreciation, expectations society has on us and how we choose to deal with them, as well as songs about love and heartbreak. The band was performing these songs for some time before going into the studio and Fort sang and played the piano at the same time with no vocal overdubs, giving the performances a more natural and increased the connection between the artist. Fort’s vocals are warm, and she has a wide vocal range, which lends to her ability to control and shape the melody which adds to the richness of the performances. The music is very enjoyable to listen to and highly creative. That’s the short of it!
Positives:
Fort’s compositions and melodies are excellent. The band has an obvious chemistry and the solos are interactive and storied.
