The Sisterhood Band is Alyssa Bonagua and Ruby Stewart have strong musical DNA. Alyssa is the daughter of Kathie Baillie and Michael Bonagura (the core of country band Baillie & The Boys) and Ruby’s father is rock icon Rod Stewart. The two met through music friends, both were working on their solo careers. The common thread of growing up in the music business and sharing a mutual love and adoration for Joni Mitchell’s music, it wasn’t obvious to them that their friendship should turn professional until they were jamming on some Joni songs backstage after seeing a Rod Stewart gig together. He listened to their glistening harmonies of a song or two and told them “You two should start a band.” They’ve written and recorded their first EP Summer Setlist, which features the theme song “Tenderize My Heart” for the Stewarts & Hamilton’s show on E!
Positives:
Stirring harmonies, poetic lyrics and music royalty know how. The two sound supremely cohesive and coalesced. Each brings an individual uniqueness, but together the blending of their voices is enlightened.
Bottom Line:
Children of iconic musicians have certainly put out albums in the past, some with flat result, some with a step forward of their music lineage. Bonagua and Stewart are from two very different music worlds, but the colliding of their talents creates a freshness that offers haunting melodies and exquisite harmonies unmatched by any other female group in today's popular music. Their successful partnership certainly falls on the latter in the measure of successful partnerships.
