Sylvia Aimee, Friends Review
Sylvia Aimee is a Country Pop vocalist and songwriter born and raised in The Netherlands. Aimee’s sound finds its roots in female artists like Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, Kelsea Ballerini, and Carly Pearce. However, music has always been Aimee’s salvation, allowing her to make sense of life and give her a place in this world by writing songs. Her lyrics are unfiltered and brutally honest, and she is not afraid to be vulnerable and show you her dark sides. Topics include mental illness, loneliness, and feeling the odd one out, but there is always a spark of hope and optimism shining through them. Aimee’s lyrics bring the listener in with their universal appeal and spark emotions. Aimee has performed on Dutch national television and radio, recorded three singles in Nashville, participated in the Dutch TV talent show “The Best Singer-Songwriter Of The Netherlands,” and released her debut EP Superhero. She is currently working hard on her second EP called Identity. Aimee is one of the few brave singer-songwriters fighting against the odds to bring the Nashville sound to Europe. Aimee is now releasing her single called “Friends” to further her country sound in Europe and beyond.
[section label=”Bottom Line”]Bottom Line: “Friends” is a memorable up-tempo Country Pop song that grabs your attention with its catchy opening guitar melody and warm acoustic guitar strumming support. The song’s lyrics address the feelings of missing out on true friendship, and it is the second single from Aimee’s upcoming EP Identity. Have you ever felt lonely at a party? That feeling is what inspired the song “Friends.” Aimee explains, “I was at a party of my boyfriend’s friends. I watched it all; the trust, the comfort, the history they shared. It touched me because I have never had a lot of friends. For me, friends always come and go. To process this feeling of loneliness, missing out, and jealousy, I wrote this song. I think a lot of people struggle with this theme (friendship), but not a lot of people talk about it.” Aimee’s vocals ring clear with a defined country accent as she delivers the melody with a catchy shape and memorable flow. The song’s form has variations and subtleties that add interest to each passing section. Aimee’s vocal harmonies also add to the color and impact of various phrases. She writes and sings about a feeling that most would struggle to discuss, resulting in her listeners feeling recognized and supported. Aimee confesses, “I am an introverted person with a lot to say. I find it difficult to talk about myself and my feelings, so I use my music to express them. When it comes to writing, there’s no shame or fear, and I will write brutally honest.” As a pop-country artist and songwriter, Aimee is a definite asset to the European music scene, and her growing song catalog will keep pushing her music and fan base to a broader audience. Aimee is one to watch, and that’s the short of it!
