Lovers Leap is an acoustic roots band that is highlighted by their prodigious singing and thoughtful playing. A collaboration between GRAMMY-nominated bassist Shelby Means (formerly of Della Mae, Sally & George), award winning guitarist and songwriter Joel Timmons (Sol Driven Train, Sally & George). The two are joined by equally acclaimed singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mary Lucey (formerly Biscuit Burners), and slide guitar pioneer Billy Cardine (Acoustic Syndicate and formerly Biscuit Burners). Their name was born form the towering rock outcrop in Hot Springs, NC. The totality of their experiences is what makes Lovers Leap the EP, such a superb listen.
Positives:
Lush harmonies, beautifully written tunes that resonate everyday stories, and solid performances that convey stories of beauty, love and resilience.
Bottom Line:
Lovers Leap is an acoustically based album, that gets to the heart of the song, and digs deep into the marrow of the lyric. Easy on the ears, and opulent harmonies that elevate each song to a higher level, while still maintaining and easy going sound. What is also unique is the male and female lead vocal approach, lending to different sonic qualities. The cornerstone to success in this group overall is the beautiful harmonies and the delicacy of their melding. Each tune is thoughtfully constructed and eloquently delivered, making for an overall depth of experience from beginning to end. That’s the short of it!
