Jill Martin is a country music vocalist, songwriter and performer that lives in Nashville Tennessee, she has been winning the hearts and ears of country music fans with her warm voice and authentic style. Martin has always loved music, singing from an early age, performing in bands throughout high school and college. She moved to Nashville in 2008, where she soon meet her husband Logan Mize. The couple had there first child, Lincoln, which took Martin’s focus and Country music had to wait as her role as a mother took precedence. When Lincoln was a little older, Martin retuned to the Country music scene with a new-found passion and a fresh sound. Martin released her debut album, Jill Martin, independently in January 2013. Martin and her husband co-wrote the tunes and the album reached #24 on the iTunes Country charts and was also featured in Billboard magazine, reaching #2 on the Regional Heatseeker chart. Martin is back with her second album, an EP titled, The Locals. With six original tracks that has Martin’s beautiful voice and a style that is a perfect blend of Contemporary Country and Classic Country.
Positives:
The songwriting on The Locals is a heavyweight affair. Martin is a honest and emotional lyric writer and that transfers to an album that is easy to relate to, as you enjoy the characters and storylines.
Bottom Line:
Martin has a voice that is notable and full. The songs have a little edge with just the right amount of crunchy guitar to make it contemporary, but the feels and vocal delivery are steeped in the country traditions. The band is excellent and well produced. All the songs on The Locals were co-written by Martin and her husband, with the exception of “The Girl with You” and “Meet Me in Montana,” which were a collaboration between the couple and Blake Chaffin. The success of the album comes from Martins powerful vocals and relatable lyrics that draw you in to each emotional setting. “Outta Of My Heart” finds Randy Montana joining Martin on the background vocals. “Round and Round,” is a moving duet with Martin and Logan Mize, the couple obviously have a magical chemistry. If you have not heard of Martin until now, be sure to pick up this album and her previous works, a worthy add to any Country collection. That's the short of it!
