has been on the minds and in the ears of many Country music fans since her debut Love & Lovely Lies. Emerging at a young age, Clark already had great clarity, lyrical creativity, and wide-eyed ambition. Now, two years have passed, and Clark has released her sophomore album, Collide. The new album finds Clark embracing and exploring both the dark and light sides of the human condition in her lyrics, and I must say her voice is as beautiful as ever. She also presents multiple styles and pushes the boundaries of her past alt-country/Americana sounds, by incorporating influences of rock and folk music. Producer/musician Mark Lizotte (Diesel) helps solidify the influences of country and Americana music with rock and folk. The result? An excellent album of eleven beautifully sung tunes that have something for everyone and that’s the short of it!
Positives:
Nice mix of styles and feels. The songwriting is full of relatable subjects with strong melodies and choruses.
Bottom Line:
Imogen Clark’s second album, Collide finds the singer presenting music with more of an edge and her vocal range and abilities are even more on display, and the growth shows. With big choruses and heartbreaking ballads Clark has a fine collection of tunes. Her lyrics are spot-on and exhibit the emotion that runs through so many life experiences is brought into focus both musically and lyrically. There is great musicianship throughout Collide, both from Clark and the band, the guitars are a strong part of this very polished and professional album.
