Blake Shelton is back with a full-length album titled, Texoma Shore. Shelton’s country charm has won the hearts of millions of viewers on The Voice. His last album, If I’m Honest, was 2016’s top-selling country album and Texoma Shore could easily match that again this year. Shelton is the songwriter on all but one track of the eleven and his signature mix of sweet and facetious lyrics are strong throughout the album. Texoma Shore is a dazzling album full of love, happiness and back to roots nostalgia that will make you feel good. Shelton’s singing makes the listener believe that each track is personal to him, and I believe him, which makes me connect to his music at a much deeper level. This is a great feel good album and that’s the short of it!
Positives: This album has found a perfect balance between new country and traditional country music. The songs are engaging, heartfelt, rowdy at times, and the ballads are truly emotional tugging.
Negatives: Shelton’s track “Money” finds the singer trying on a new hat with the verses being done in a rap style. This just does not work, no matter how hip the beat is and how strong the chorus is, but I still bet it will sell! That is the power of Shelton’s charm, he can sell rap to country folk.
Bottom Line: Texoma Shore is a dazzling album full of love, happiness and back to roots nostalgia that will make you feel good. Shelton’s vocals are smooth and masculine, combine that with great lyrics and melodies, and you have an exceptional country album that is a throwback to country music of the 80s and 90s.
